BATTLEFIELD OXYGEN SUSTAINMENT SYSTEM (BOSS)

The Battlefield Oxygen Sustainment System (BOSS) was designed for the United States Air Force Special Operations to generate, store, fill and deploy LOX.  Currently, the BOSS features four Essex Products, which are also available separately: The Oxygen Generator and Liquefier (OGL); the Backpack Medical Oxygen System Filling Station (BMOS-FS); the Mounted Medical Oxygen System (MMOS); and the Backpack Medical Oxygen System (BMOS).

The BMOS-FS Hose Kit connects the MMOS to the BMOS-FS for refilling.

Applications include Medevac fixed wing, rotary wing and ground transport, as well as parachutist and ground evacuation.

50 GALLON LOX CART

The 50 Gallon LOX cart is a mobile liquid oxygen storage tank assembly with a maximum operating pressure of 65 psig.  A retractable front wheel allows for towing and increased mobility in the field.  The cart also features a manual parking brake, lift/tie down rings and an insulated transfer hose, which will work with any portable LOX device having a standard CRU-50 fill connection, including all Essex LOX Converters, BMOS, BMOS-FS, MMOS, NPTLOX and PTLOX.  The 50 Gallon LOX Cart meets and/or exceeds functional and environmental requirements of MIL-PRF-38170.  It is tested to MIL-STD-810 and conforms to mobility requirements of SAE-A58090 (MIL-M-8090, Type II, Group A equipment).

The 50 Gallon LOX Cart can be used with all Essex LOX Converters, BMOS, BMOS Filling Station, MMOS, NPTLOX and PTLOX.

EPOS Smoke Hood

EMERGENCY PASSENGER OXYGEN SYSTEM (EPOS)

The EPOS (Emergency Passenger Oxygen System) is a lightweight, self-contained protective breathing device, or smoke hood, for use in emergency egress and escape situations.   The unit takes just seconds to don and provides 360° visibility while supplying aviation grade oxygen to the wearer for up to 60 minutes. The EPOS smoke hood is designed to protect a user’s respiratory system, head and vision from fire, toxic fumes and hazardous chemical spills.

In the early 1990s, the U.S. Air Force initiated a feasibility study to determine if a commercially available product would meet their requirements for passenger smoke and fume protection in military aircraft emergencies.  They selected the Essex Emergency Passenger Oxygen System smoke hood, which has become standard equipment aboard USAF passenger-carrying aircraft and as well as many other air forces around the world.

The U.S. Air Force utilizes the EPOS smoke hood for trained individuals in military aircraft emergencies such as decompression, fire, evacuation, rescue, smoke-filled cabins, toxic fumes or hazardous cargo spills.

The EPOS smoke hood utilizes compressed aviation grade oxygen and CO2 scrubbers to furnish up to 60 minutes of oxygen for someone at rest.  The patented hood provides 360° visibility and dons in less than 15 seconds.

The one-size-fits-all design of the Emergency Passenger Oxygen System simply slips over the head.  There is no mouthpiece or nose clip to impede communication and the smoke hood allows for corrective or protective eyewear with no restrictions.

At only 2 lbs., the Essex EPOS is the lightest and most comfortable smoke hood available.  The EPOS has a maintenance-free 10-1/2 year life span.

PURGE KIT

The Purge Kit removes moisture from cryogenic vessels, system lines, valves and their components when coupled with an adequate supply of pure gaseous nitrogen, oxygen or air.  The kit includes a heater assembly, power cord, 4′ flexible hose, 1′ flexible hose and filler valve adapter.  The Purge Kit may be used on any Essex LOX systems if/when they require purging.

BACKPACK MEDICAL OXYGEN SYSTEM (BMOS)

BACKPACK MEDICAL OXYGEN SYSTEM (BMOS)

The Backpack Medical Oxygen System (BMOS) is a low pressure, portable 2.0 liter liquid oxygen storage and gaseous delivery system, capable of supplying up to 1720 gaseous liters of oxygen at a maximum flow rate of 15 liters per minute at 50 psig.  A built-in flow control valve delivers oxygen to a single patient at flow rates from 0.5 to 15 liters per minute.  A secondary accessory port can supply 50 psi of oxygen to other medical devices or to an oxygen regulator for a second patient.  The BMOS has been successfully tested to work in tandem with commonly used ventilators.  Weighing just 19 pounds when full, the BMOS can be carried or worn by parachutists and ground support personnel.  The BMOS requires no external power and uses just six AA-batteries for the quantity indicator.  The system has been tested to MIL-STD-810.

ECAT Contract Number SPE2D1-16-D-0007.
